Compulsory Course (C)

Features of technical texts of German and Greek are studied, as well as the principles of technical translation based on instructions for use, manuals, patient information leaflets and risk communication in specialized texts.

The basic features of this course are the theoretical and practical background of conference and community interpreting, the comparison of the different settings in which these two types of interpreting take place, the conditions, difficulties and challenges of the profession of the community interpreter, the ethical and code of professional ethics, the new approach to community interpreting and the new role of the community interpreter.

This course also aims at familiarizing students with translation methodology through the translation practice on general texts. Students are given texts of an increased level of difficulty and varied topics to provide them with a brief introduction to the translation of more specialized texts so as to better prepare them for the texts they will be working with in the next semesters.

This course aims at gradually introduce students in translation methodology through the translation practice on general texts. Emphasis is placed on using the text analysis method to approach and understand the text in order to identify the communication intent of the author, the communication intents of the text, as well as to extract nformation from the text and identify the text’s logical organisation.

The objective of this course is to further familiarize students with translating texts using special languages. We examine texts on Medicine, Biology, Pharmacology, Genetics, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Engineering, etc. During this semester students are introduced to more specialized scientific texts. Glossaries are again compiled and students learn to work in groups with a clear allocation of roles.

The objective of this course is to further familiarize students with translating texts using special languages. We examine texts on Medicine, Biology, Pharmacology, Genetics, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Engineering, etc. During this semester students work on more difficult and more specialized texts. Again, they compile small glossaries, a prerequisite for translating specialized texts.
